Choose 'Request a Refund' and select your refund method

Complete the refund request form with required details

Submit the request and note your refund confirmation number

Allow 7–10 business days for processing to your original payment method
Requirements & Eligibility
- Ticket must be purchased directly through American Airlines
- Refundable fare class or cancellation within 24 hours of purchase
- Original booking reference or ticket number required
- Refund must be requested by the original ticket holder
- AAdvantage miles tickets follow separate award refund rules

Non-refundable tickets are generally not eligible for cash refunds, but may qualify for a travel credit (eVoucher) if cancelled before departure, minus applicable change fees.
If American Airlines cancels or significantly delays your flight, you are entitled to a full refund to your original form of payment, regardless of your ticket type.
Credit card refunds typically appear within 7–10 business days. If you paid by check or cash, allow up to 20 business days.
Award tickets cancelled more than 60 hours before departure are refunded in full. Cancellations within 60 hours may incur a fee.
Tickets purchased at least 2 days before the scheduled departure may be cancelled within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund, regardless of fare type.
